structure was a small 16X16 board building and later enlarged to 30x50.
1871 – 1872 Rev Thorton Chatman
1872 – 1908 Rev. Tony Lawson Sr. ~ He helped organized the Men’s Association and State
Convention. Under his administration, Sunday School was organized. In 1908, the Lord
called Rev. Lawson home.

church was destroyed by fire. The neighboring churches, Lonoke School Systems, and
Masonic Hall offered their facilities for worship. Services were held at the Lonoke Middle
School cafeteria while the church procured land in Lonoke. Groundbreaking services
were held in 1975. The church reopened their doors December 26, 1976 and dedicated
the new building January 9, 1977. Rev. Benson retired due to health problems on

where updated. Church was able to pay-off reconstruction loan.
2015 - Present Rev. Byron L. Calhoun was sent by God with a vision to progress the church. Pastor
Calhoun has progressed the church technologically and updated choir loft and baptismal
area. We have added The Sandy Donahue Fellowship Hall which is home of the only
Household Pantry in Lonoke County and is used to facilitate youth bible study as well as
city meetings. He has grown our Christian Education department by offering mid-week
lunch and learn small group bible study. Pastor Calhoun’s belief of Faith & Trust in God
validates the chant, “The Best is Yet to Come”.
